Blessings
If you have chosen a civil wedding you may want to have the union blessed in a place of worship to provide a
religious or spiritual aspect to your special day. This is a popular
choice for couples who are, for whatever reason, unable to re-marry in a church.

A blessing is a short ceremony that takes place after the official civil ceremony. It is not
legally binding but more an expression of your commitment to each other to put a seal on the
relationship.
When organizing a blessing, first speak to the minister you want to give it. A blessing usually
involves a reading, hymn and prayer and although there is no time limit normally takes place on the
day of the wedding or very soon
after.
